I’m Sarvesh.

I’m a Senior Consultant in cyber at EY and I’ve been in the industry for about 4 years. I broke in with no certs, so I know what it’s like to send application after application and hear nothing.

Through MyFirstHack I help people break into cyber. This programme is the 1:1 version: you, me and a plan, every week, until you’ve got the job.

Questions people ask.

How long does it take?

It depends on where you’re starting from and how many hours a week you can give it. On your first call we look at your situation and set a realistic timeline together. Then we work through it week by week until you’re hired.

Do I need a cert?

No. I broke into cyber with no certs. A cert like Security+ can help you get past some filters, but projects you can talk about and a CV that shows them matter more. If a cert makes sense for the roles you’re targeting, it goes on your roadmap.

Do I need to be technical already?

You need the basics you’d get from a course or a cert like Security+. Your roadmap fills the gaps SOC hiring managers ask about, like reading logs, working alerts in a SIEM and writing up what you found.

What happens on the call?

It’s 45 minutes with me on video. We go through where you are, what’s been getting in the way and what it would take to get you hired. If I think I can help, I’ll explain how the programme works. If I don’t think it’s the right fit, I’ll tell you and point you somewhere better.

What if I don’t get hired?

Do you work with people outside the UK/US?

Yes. Everything happens over video calls and messages, so where you live isn’t a problem. Tell me where you’re based in the application and we’ll talk about your local job market on the call.
